Immersive theater "Nekomachi"

Immersive theater is a novel form of performance art that originated in London in the 2000s. Unlike traditional theater, where the audience sits in fixed seats to watch a show, immersive theater invites the audience to move through the venue, witness performances up close, and participate in the work as part of the story itself.

This production is a new type of immersive theater by in which participants wear earphones and walk from Shimokitazawa Station to Setagaya-Daita Station, setting out to discover a "hidden world" lurking within the town before their eyes. The work is based on *Nekomachi* (Cat Town) by Sakutaro Hagiwara, a modern poet with deep ties to Shimokitazawa.

This creative collective (written and directed by Yui Takeshima, costumes and Creative Producer/Costume by Kaori Kondo) creates uniquely Japanese immersive theatre, utilizing real locations and incorporating the history and mythology of the land to create a poetic and fantastical worldview. Their unique method of assembling their works around the theme of "Seeing the Unseen" and their genre-less expression that incorporates elements of dance, song, acting and installation art, have been highly praised overseas.
